The summer of chaos is over and in just four days NFL fans will be brought back to stability. This Thursday, all will be forgiven when the first kick off of the season takes place. What better place to start it up than the home of the team that took the last Lombardi Trophy, the Green Bay Packers. It will be a fantasy lover's dream as two of the game's most potent offenses square off. The high flying Pack vs. the 2009 Super Bowl winning New Orleans Saints. Tough to top any matchup that features elite QB's Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. As excited as I am to see the juggernauts butt heads, I'm here today to talk about the guys that are severely overrated at their position and those that don't get the credit they deserve. Welcome to Breakouts and Busts: Quarterback Edition.
Breakout: Colt McCoy- The Browns may not be a playoff-caliber team, but McCoy will do everything he can to make them competitive again. Although he threw three more INT's than TD's last season, McCoy tore it up this pre-season (including a 13 for 13 completion performance in the finale), giving long-suffering Cleveland fans hope for the future. With last year's surprise RB Peyton Hillis in tow and a new West Coast offense in place, I think Colt is in for a big year.
Prediction: 3800 Passing Yards, 25 total TD's, 10 INT's
Bust: Michael Vick- There may be no greater comeback story in NFL history than Vick. From the penthouse to the outhouse and back again. Vick overcame a stint in the pen to become the most dangerous quarterback in the league last year. The dual threat paced the Eagles with an amazing 9 rushing and 21 passing touchdowns. Vick's blessing of fleet feet could turn out to be his curse. He already missed 4 games last season and I could see that number increasing this year due to the amount of hits he's likely to take in open space. The Eagles line has looked ugly this pre-season as well. Top that off with the fact that he's now 31 years old, when the wheels start to lose some speed, and you could have a recipe for disaster.
Prediction: 2700 Passing Yards, 20 total TD's, 13 INT's
